Near miss
Ken Levinedraft
Writer and director of System Shock 2 and BioShock. Rapture is the most cited case of a level telling its story through the room, and his narrative Legos talk is the field's reference pitch for systemic story.

Why it matters
Levine misses the ten because the immersive sim lineage already has its seat and because narrative Legos is a pitch, not yet a shipped proof. Rapture alone keeps him on the bench rather than off it.

Break story into pieces the system can recombine
Levine's 2014 talk proposes narrative Legos: cut story into small, concrete, non-abstract parts, characters with wants and states, and let the game recombine them so the narrative replays differently. His contrast is a Death Star playset, beautiful and single-use, against a box of bricks. It is the clearest statement of systemic narrative from a designer known for authored ones.
